How To Uninstall Mac Apps Mavericks

Converting a Mavericks computer in a true server is easy. Just purchase Server.app from the Mac Appstore and configure it. Many people, like me, also install a copy of Server.app on a system that they want to use to remotely administer the server, which works great. Sudo /Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia -volume /Volumes/Untitled -applicationpath /Applications/Install OS X Mavericks.app -nointeraction. Then, hit Enter. It will ask you to type in your administrator password. Do so and hit Enter again. 'This copy of the Mavericks application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading.' Turns out the package installer certificate has expired which will fail the install. I dropped into the terminal during the installer, set the date to some time in 2012 and reinstalled, all seems fine now.

Boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.

How

First run Disk Utility > Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports 'the disk cannot be fixed'. Then, choose Reinstall OS X. This will be an install 'in place' and shouldn't effect any of your own data or settings.

That said you should always have a good backup, anything can happen at any time, not just during installing.

Also, before you re-install have you tried shutting down from your Guest account? It may be a problem in your Home folder in which case re-installing won't help. It also may be some third process.
