MAC Renovations interior designer Azu Saavedra shares her top ten list of bathroom renovation essentials:
- The right vanity for your space
- Lots of creative choices — width, height, floating, and even under-cabinet lighting with a sensor switch for those night time visits
- Storage, storage, storage!
- Whether you can fit a linen closet or not, every bathroom needs enough storage and the right storage, such as drawers, pull-outs for hair appliances, towel bars, and racks, etc.
- The right amount of light and fixtures
- Layered lighting and dimmer switches give you control over the lights and shadows
- The right size mirror
- Never underestimate the power of the right size mirror
- Heated tile floors and benches
- I always extend the heated floor tiles into the walk-in shower. This is great for many things, especially for having warm feet while showering, and it dries up the water on the floor to prevent mildew
- Shower Bench
- Fold-down or tiled bench. If it is tiled, add some heat for a toasty and beyond-comfortable bench!
- Multi-showerhead shower
- I like to have a fixed shower head, either a rain head or a standard wall showerhead, as well as a handheld. You can use them at the same time or separately, and the handheld is also great for cleaning your shower
- Thermostatic valve with volume control
- With a multi-showerhead, being able to set your perfect temperature and leave it there is a big help. One part of the thermostatic valve sets the water temperature, while another controls the volume, so you can change the flow without altering the temperature. Conservation + comfort!
- Shampoo niches
- Shower storage that is out of the way and looks great, and when we can add a puck light to give it that glam feel
- Glass partition
- Starphire glass all the way. This type of glass has less iron, which makes the glass clearer and less green. It adds to the cost, but it’s worth it to remove the green tint that regular glass has that distorts your beautiful new tiles
The app for a phone or tablet is $3.99, but to sync with the app on a Mac computer, a separate app has to be purchased for $20. Instacast would be a good option if syncing between an iOS device and a Mac computer is a must. However, Downcast has a more streamlined, user-friendly approach. Price: $3.99 for iPhone or iPad app, $20 in Mac App Store.
Must Have Mac Apps 2019
As is clear from my comment history, I'm not a fan of Apple as a company. However, the company I'm joining has standardized their development environment on Mac OS, and as an engineer I'm certainly not one to ask people to put in a disproportionate amount of effort to accommodate what is, ultimately, a relatively unimportant moral stance - so they're provisioning me a Mac, probably a Macbook Pro. I have no idea what model.
Mac users, what should my first steps be in order to be productive? I have a Keychron K2, 1080p monitor, and mouse on my desk attached to a Thunderbolt 3 hub, which I assume I can keep using, but I don't know what the options and expectations are for software such as window managers (I don't like the default one much, but I last used it seriously in 2016 - has it gotten better? are there alternatives?), search/command helper overlays a la Rofi, or even terminal apps.
Must Have Imac Apps
Thanks in advance!
